Before we begin, does this quote resonate with you?

I have not come up with a fantastic summary about myself, so I just haven’t done one.

Let’s change that.

Jerry Seinfeld said the way to create better jokes is to write every day. That has always stuck in my mind – and I find it to be very helpful when you are finding your next step, your niche, what you are the go-to person for.

So, today I invite you to just start writing.

5 ideas for inspiration:

  1. Start drafting your LinkedIn summary, or change a single word in it. Your summary is important because that is one of the first things people see. It may influence how they approach you.
  2. Send a LinkedIn invitation or email to someone you’ve been putting off. Use the heatwave and that it’s Saturday today, to wish them a lovely weekend and look forward to talking soon. People are much less Monday to Friday now over summer.
  3. Don’t write on your computer, but with good old-fashioned pen and paper. Doodle even. Not having that “drive and goal-focused” pressure can trigger great ideas.
  4. If you don’t feel like writing, share online or in person an article or graphic that someone else created that resonates with you and you think might be interesting. It can be cathartic and tells you quickly if it feels comfortable or not (crossing off ideas is important). Especially if you’re in an insular environment, or one that you are not at ease in, this can feel “exposing”. But it is healthy, and can help you see what you are struggling with.
  5. What would your best testimonial say if I call them and ask them what your biggest strength is? Write that down.

Don’t procrastinate this, just start writing.
