Testimonials and recommendations, or social proof, boil down to people saying nice things about you. The key here is that what others say about you is far more persuasive and powerful than whatever you will say about yourself.

Another way to describe this is a success story, and drafting these for other people reduces the activation energy for them to give you a testimonial or recommendation.  A really simple structure to use is “problem-action-result” or “result-action-problem”. These are great to put up on social media, because people love to see numbers and actual results!

In this arena, quantity is really important. People are not just looking at quality, but they’re looking at the whole picture. If you have not yet started a success stories and testimonials folder, start one right now! Use it constantly to house your favorite testimonials from your ideal clients – people who, if you had a full list of others just like them, would make you extremely happy.  Use every source available to you, including emails, letters, social media posts, LinkedIn recommendations, tweets, training evaluation forms, thank you cards, and more. Every piece is important!

As you collect these recommendations, look for strengths, skills, and consistent themes and patterns. What do you receive compliments about? What do people ask you to do? What do people seek your advice about? This is all about your reputation! It’s a great place to start to build your high-fee core offer, and see where you would use it in your brand awareness through prospect activity, influencer activity, platform activity, and where people can start to get to know you.
